Hello by Terri Simon

I saw you from across the cafe,
and I think we might
have something in common,
I mean, besides being alone
for the moment,
and us being human beings and all.
I thought you might become my friend,
maybe like the same museums
and used book stores.
We all could use more friends,
and I just wanted you to know
that someone sees your eyes shining
with humor and curiosity
and appreciates the way
you were nice to your waitress,
and it’s okay if you don’t
want to be friends or anything.
I just really wanted you to understand
you made my life a little better
without even seeing me.
