and drowning in spermaceti
like the seventy-cent-smart
per pound-foolish
chicken thighs
that look like
parts left behind at the leper colony
when Jesus doesn’t show up and
they all get evicted
but the government gouda only
goes so far and you’ve got to stretch
the skin so the grease doesn’t bite
and the phone doesn’t ring but
the electricity is on
