Lost Art of Laundry by JD DeHart

There might be a magic
in the folding, arranging,
unfolding,

a silent contemplative turning
of machine parts for the drying.
Listen to them work. Imagine
your life with such clarity
of purpose.

Mother used to pin up clothes
on a line in the backyard for wind
to rush by, nature doing the work.

We have to settle for wherever we can find –
in doorways and showers,
cleaning up our weeks and beginning
Mondays again to sully effort and intention.
