Embers into Ash by Scott Thomas Outlar

Love is a little lazy lately,
so much so, in fact,
I’ve forgotten what it means
to seek such a state,
and life has become
a lesson in lounging
in lieu of acting,
which is all perfectly cool
as far as I’m concerned
because the last effort
that I made toward such ends
was met with ice,
and so I’d rather chill
than mess around with a fire
that leaves only burns.

Scott Thomas Outlar spends the hours flowing and fluxing with the ever-changing currents of the Tao River while laughing at and/or weeping over life’s existential nature. He hosts the site 17Numa.wordpress.com where links to his published poetry, fiction, essays, and interviews can be found. His chapbook “Songs of a Dissident” was released in 2015 through Transcendent Zero Press and is available on Amazon. His poetry collections “Happy Hour Hallelujah” (CTU Publishing) and “Chaos Songs” (Weasel Press) are both forthcoming in 2016. You can read more of Scott’s work here: http://17Numa.wordpress.com

  • Great photo. Lotta's Fountain. One of the most important monuments in San Francisco, and its origins are fiercely female!

    • Thank you, Melinda. I did not know the name of this fountain. Naturally, this will lead to a bit of research, and likely more Poetry a'la Lotta.
