Vegas Wedding by Amanda Tumminaro

In the electric chapel,
Veronica wears her strawberry sandals
and divorce papers pinned up her sleeve.
Her fly-by-night bridegroom, Chad,
appears in khakis,
down the aisle, arm-in-arm,
to the music, like one big heave.

Mirror-balls hang down like tongues,
and it is “Preacher or Bust.”
So they say their vows:
“Ronnie, I promise you,
you will never crack a nail.”
And she, in reply:
“Chad, rest assured, I will always post your bail.”

Amanda Tumminaro lives in the U.S. She is a poet and short story writer and her work has been featured in Thrice Fiction, The Radvocate and Stickman Review, among others. Her first poetry chapbook, “The Flying Onion,” will be released through The Paragon Journal in the spring of 2018.
