The Poet Goes to Work by Seth Jani

You come home to a table,
A glass of whiskey,
And the windiness of poems
Blowing through your body.

You light your room
With a small musical star
Plucked from the measly
Heavens of the heart.

You cannot tame one good word
As you travel the forest
Of wild graces,
And after a whole night

Of blank white pages,
All you have is an upset stomach,
A pounding head,
A dizzying allergy to light.
